LANDSCAPE RECOVERY OF THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF CAP ROIG
TYPOLOGY: LANDSCAPE
CLIENT: FUNDACIÓ "LA CAIXA"
LOCATION: CALELLA DE PALAFRUGELL, GIRONA
YEAR: 2015 - ON GOING
STATUS: BUILT
PHOTOGRAPHY: CARLOS HERNÁNDEZ
The intervention proposes to replace the pavement of the "Terrassa dels Enamorats" in the botanical gardens of Cap Roig (Girona), which was in very bad state, with a new pavement, preserving the image of the existing pavements but giving it a contemporary interpretation. The existing materials, the pebbles and the bricks and different concretes that mimic the stones of the site.
The project reinterprets the terrace and arranges the space based on the creation of a series of vertical strips separated by two rows of hand-laid bricks. These strips, at the same time, are divided horizontally into sections that have different finishes: manual brick in different opus, concrete using sandstone aggregate or brushed concrete. Each of the pavement sections is separated from the other by a corten steel plate. This structure makes it possible to preserve the trees and the existing vegetation.
